CCSMBA Winter League Season 2021/22
A tough Winter League Season for our Maroons, but then it was a hard season for our sport as it tried to recover from a devastating pandemic for all. Although we had enough players to enter two teams, it would have left us with no reserves to rely on with holidays and ill health still a factor over the season. It was good to give everyone a chance who wanted to play through out the season, and there were quite a few close matches too. Hopefully next Winter League Season will see a few more members returning to play and we may be able to enter more than one team. Thank you to all the teams we visited for your hospitality and welcome. Below is the final league table.

The Rae Francis
With only four entries into this years Rae Francis, the club entered straight in at the semi final stage. A long trip awaited us on Thursday 6th January, for our first leg against a very well organised and very skillful team in Penlee. They showed great hospitality, especially as the weather on the evening wasn't great and our route down ended with a diversion having to be taken as the harbour road had to be shut! Either way the first two legs of the competition saw both the triples and the fours start the tie off. Two very well battled games of bowls with both ending in draws, with good performances by both teams. Then came the doubles and the singles, to which the home team took a small lead on both mats. To go down by fourteen points overall at a place we hadn't played for a while was a great result, and hopefully set up a great chance in our home leg.
The home leg just over a week later on Friday 14th January, gave Penlee the long trip across to us, but they werwe as strong as ever. Again a very tight match ensued with this time after all the matches, the score ended in a thirty eight point draw each. Again great performances from each team of bowlers, but alas it was just too much to make up and the result saw Penlee advance to the final. A great night of bowling, good hospitality and a good social event proving we can all get back to bowls safely and start really enjoying our sport again. Our club would like to wish Penlee's captain Martin and his team the best of luck in the final, and hopefully will et the chance to play each other again soon.
