This years tournament was held on Sunday 11th February and was our biggest to date. Carnmoggas came to our rescue, offering us their venue, as our village hall ended up double booked. A huge thank you to Ian for this, and he was on hand all day to provide much needed food and refreshments. Eighteen teams took to the mats from all over our county, and after the group stages, the quarter finals and the semi finals, it was left to two teams to battle for this years charity shield title. The two teams were St Newlyn East Pheonix and new St Keverne, who were playing in the tournament for the very first time.
A very close final that ended with just one shot separating the sides. A very enjoyable match to watch too. St Newlyn East Pheonix won to become the new Roy Denslow Charity Shield winners 2024.
Some more pictures from on the day, including two special guests. Two dogs, Perry (Lab) and Ayla (Yorkie) were there to keep an eye over proceedings too.
Austen, Roy's nephew was there not only to play, but to hand out the trophies on behalf of Roy's family. Although we'd found our 2024 champions, the real winners were the St Austell Food Bank, this years chosen charity. On the day we also had a cake sale and a raffle, which a big thank you to all who donated to it and bought tickets as well. The final figure which was paid to the food bank came to £450.00, an amazing amount, and the club would like to than all that was involved, played, helped and came along to watch. A cracking day and we can't wait to do it all again next year!
